Donald E. Knuth, recipient of the 1974 A.M. Turing Award from the Association for Computing Machinery, is the author of the landmark series The Art of Computer Programming and the creator of the TeX and METAFONT typesetting systems. He is Professor Emeritus at Stanford University and a pioneer of the analysis of algorithms. In 1979, he received the U.S. National Medal of Science. Many of his lectures and writings are freely available online, including his booklet Mathematical Writing.
