SCALE Summit Header - November 29-30, 2018

Georgia Tech is host to a National Science Foundation-funded summit on Scalable Advanced Learning Ecosystems (SALE) to be held on campus in Atlanta on November 29-30, 2018.

This two-day summit brings together leaders in higher education, industry, and policy-making in educational technology to brainstorm and strategize on creating cost-effective, sustainable, and scalable educational environments, or Scalable Advanced Learning Ecosystems (SALE). Envisioned as laying the foundations for next generation learning ecosystems, workshop organizers will bring together experts in the field to imagine what SALEs would look like.

The event will be hosted at the Global Learning Center (GLC) on Georgia Tech’s campus and will feature invited speakers who will facilitate conversations on personalized learning systems, intelligent tutoring systems, immersive learning environments, and data mining and learning analytics. The goal will be to craft a collective vision for institutions to combine these technologies with considerations for student engagement, research, and business models that that make up SALEs.

Summit participants will consider important topics such as:

  • Affordability
  • Access to technology and resources
  • Designing and implementing collaborative degrees
  • Learning design
  • Platforms and technologies
  • Growth and business models
  • Governance and compliance
  • Faculty engagement and shifting faculty roles
  • Assessment and research

The outcome of the summit will be a roadmap for education for the next 10 - 20 years. Creating the SALE roadmap will provide a beacon for researchers in a wide variety of disciplines who are interested in education. Organizers of the summit seek to to publish aspects of this roadmap both as a white paper for the National Science Foundation and as select journal articles to share the knowledge gained with the broader educational and business communities.

We look forward to exploring the future of learning with you.

The SALE Summit will be collaboratively hosted by the Center for 21st Century Universities (C21U) and Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE) thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
